The Wife Is the Foundation of the Home

The concept of "Akeret HaBayit" — "foundation of the home" — means that it is the woman who determines the atmosphere in the family. Her mood, her words, her attitude toward her husband and children shape the environment in which every family member lives. In material and household matters, the husband should listen to his wife's opinion — her intuition and sensitivity make her perspective the priority. The Rebbe wrote that a wise husband understands: by yielding to his wife in everyday matters, he does not lose authority but strengthens the foundation of his home. A woman's wisdom is a gift from G-d, and to disregard it means to disregard His blessing.

Peace as a Vessel for Blessings

Shalom Bayit — peace in the home — is not merely the absence of arguments. It is the only vessel capable of holding the blessings of Hashem — in income, health, and the upbringing of children. Where there is no peace, blessings "leak out" like water from a cracked jug. The Rebbe emphasized: even if a person diligently studies Torah and fulfills commandments, but there is no peace in his home — all his spiritual achievements are at risk. Shalom Bayit is not a supplement to spiritual life but its essential prerequisite.

The Art of Yielding

Even if you are absolutely right, yield for the sake of peace. The one who yields attracts the Shechinah — the Divine Presence — into their home. Do not try to change your spouse by force — a personal example of kindness and patience is far more effective than any words or reproaches. The Rebbe taught: every concession for the sake of peace is not weakness but the greatest strength. A home in which both spouses are willing to yield to each other becomes a place where G-d desires to dwell. And where G-d is present — there is abundance, joy, and true happiness.
