Heart Against Mind
If you teach a child only what their mind can grasp, spirituality will be limited by the framework of human logic. Yet Jewish education by its very essence transcends these boundaries — it speaks to the soul, not only to the intellect. The Rebbe taught that the foundations of Jewish education must be laid in their "pristine form," before the child begins to critically analyze the surrounding world. What enters the heart in early childhood remains there forever and becomes an inseparable part of one's identity. When a small child hears about the greatness of G-d, the beauty of Torah, the sanctity of Shabbat — these images are imprinted in the very depths of their soul. No doubts or questions that come later can fully erase these first spiritual impressions. This is precisely why postponing Jewish education "for later" means depriving a child of the most powerful foundation.
Unconditional Faith
The Jewish people have survived for millennia not through logic but through a connection to the Creator that stands above nature and rational explanation. This connection — mesirat nefesh, selfless devotion to G-d — is transmitted from generation to generation. Raising a child in the spirit of self-sacrifice, without "buts" and "ifs," means building an unshakeable foundation for a lifetime. The Rebbe urged parents not to fear giving a child "too much" religion. True harmony comes to those who live by Divine instruction from childhood. A child raised in an atmosphere of unconditional faith does not perceive the Torah as a restriction — for them it is a natural and joyful part of life. Do not wait for a child to "choose for themselves" — give them what belongs to their soul by birthright, and they will be grateful to you forever.
