Від Елула до Адара: «Два Світила» та завоювання Америки

Річний цикл: від заснування єшиви до Дідан Ноцах

15 Elul — Tomchei Temimim (5657/1897)

On the fifteenth of Elul 5657 (1897), the Rebbe Rashab founded the yeshiva "Tomchei Temimim" in the town of Lubavitch. The name of the yeshiva — "Supporters of the Wholesome" — reflected its mission: to cultivate a generation of students in whom deep Talmudic knowledge would be inseparably united with the flame of Chassidism. The Rebbe Rashab called his students "Neiros Le'air" — "Lamps that bring light." They were to become not merely scholars but "soldiers" of G-d, capable of carrying the light of Torah into the darkest corners of the world. The unification of Talmud and Chassidism into a single system of study was a revolution in Jewish education and laid the foundation for all the future activities of the Chabad movement.

18 Elul (Chai Elul) — Two Great Luminaries

The eighteenth of Elul — "Chai Elul" — is the birthday of two great luminaries of Chassidism. On this day in 5458 (1698), the founder of the Chassidic movement — the Baal Shem Tov (the Besht) — was born, and in 5505 (1745) — the founder of Chabad, the Alter Rebbe (Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi). The word "Chai" means "life," and this day infuses vital energy into all the spiritual work of the month of Elul. The Baal Shem Tov revealed the divine spark in every simple Jew, showing that a shepherd's sincere prayer is no less pleasing to G-d than the erudition of a sage. The Alter Rebbe gave this revelation an intellectual pathway — the Chabad system (Chochmah, Binah, Daat), enabling one to grasp G-dliness through the mind.

19 Kislev — Rosh Hashanah of Chassidism (5559/1798)

On the nineteenth of Kislev 5559 (1798), the Alter Rebbe was released from the Peter and Paul Fortress in Petersburg, where he had been imprisoned on false charges. This day became the "Rosh Hashanah of Chassidism" — the New Year of Chassidic teaching. The heavenly trial of Chassidism concluded with an acquittal, and from that point on, the teachings of Chabad began to spread with renewed force. Remarkably, exactly 130 years later, on 14 Kislev 5689 (1928), the wedding of the Seventh Rebbe and Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka took place. At the wedding, the Rebbe Rayatz declared: "This day has bound me to you, and you to me," sealing the covenant between the Rebbe and the Chassidim for all generations.

5 Tevet — Didan Notzach (5747/1987)

On the fifth of Tevet 5747 (1987), a U.S. federal court issued a historic ruling in the case concerning the library of the Lubavitcher Rebbes. Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka spoke the words that became the key to victory: "The books belong to the Chassidim, because my father belonged to the Chassidim." The court ruled that the library was the property of the Chabad movement, not of a private individual, for the Rebbe is not a private person but a public institution. "Didan Notzach" — "Our side has won" — became the motto of this day. The Rebbe declared that the victory should be celebrated by acquiring books of Torah and intensifying the study of Chassidism.

Adar — "America Iz Nisht Andersh" (1940)

In 5700 (1940), the Rebbe Rayatz arrived in America and uttered the famous words: "America iz nisht andersh" — "America is no different," shattering the widespread myth that it was impossible to observe Torah in the New World. He transferred the world center of Chabad Chassidism to the "lower hemisphere" — to 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. This was not merely a relocation — it was the beginning of a grand mission to prepare the entire world for the ultimate Redemption. The Rebbe Rayatz established in America a network of yeshivos, schools, and communal organizations, proving that holiness does not depend on geography and that a Jew can and must sanctify any place where they find themselves.
