11 Ніссана: Народження Сьомого Ребе (5662/1902)

Birth in Nikolaev

On 11 Nissan 5662 (1902), in the city of Nikolaev (present-day Ukraine), a boy was born who was destined to become the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe — Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. He was named after the third Lubavitcher Rebbe — the Tzemach Tzedek (Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn the elder), symbolically linking him to the great tradition of Chabad leadership.

The Rebbe Rashab's Reaction

When news of the birth reached the fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe — the Rebbe Rashab — he sent no fewer than six congratulatory telegrams to the family. Such unusual attention from the Rebbe indicated that he foresaw a special destiny for the newborn. According to Chassidic accounts, the Rebbe Rashab expressed great joy that a child bearing the name of the Tzemach Tzedek had been born into the Schneerson family.

Mother and Early Upbringing

The future Rebbe's mother, Rebbetzin Chana, from the very first days of her son's life showed particular meticulousness in observing the commandments. She performed netilat yadayim (ritual handwashing) each time before feeding the infant, transforming even the most mundane actions into service of God. From a very early age, the boy displayed phenomenal abilities: a sharp mind, extraordinary memory, and a deep interest in Torah study. Already in childhood, he amazed those around him with questions that demonstrated a depth of thinking far surpassing his age.
