The Spiritual Channel
The Rebbe explained numerous times in his letters a fundamental principle: bitachon (trust in G-d) is not merely a beautiful feeling but a real spiritual mechanism that creates a channel for Divine blessings. Imagine a pipe through which blessings flow from above. The stronger and more sincere your trust, the wider this pipe becomes, and the more goodness can flow through it. Conversely, anxiety, fear, and constant worry about tomorrow constrict this channel, literally blocking the flow of abundance. This is not a metaphor — it is a spiritual law that operates as unfailingly as the laws of physics. When a person truly trusts the Creator, they open themselves to receiving what G-d wants to give them. Worry, on the other hand, is a form of disbelief that says: "I do not believe You will take care of me," and thereby creates a spiritual barrier to blessing.
Action and Result
At the same time, the Rebbe emphasized: bitachon does not mean inaction. A person is obligated to act in a natural manner — to work, run a business, make reasonable decisions. G-d created a world in which blessings arrive through natural channels, and our task is to create a "vessel" (kli) for receiving them. But — and this is the key point — one must clearly understand that success comes not through our efforts but from Above. Gold and silver belong to G-d, and He gives them to a person for performing good deeds — tzedakah, helping others, supporting Torah study. One who remembers this will never be enslaved by their business.
A Practical Step
In his letters, the Rebbe offered concrete advice to those experiencing financial difficulties: increase your tzedakah. This seems paradoxical — how can one give more when there is already not enough money? But this is precisely where the power of bitachon manifests. Tzedakah is the fastest and most proven way to attract new blessing into your business and life. By giving, you demonstrate your trust in G-d, and He responds with a measure that far exceeds your investment. This is not magic — it is spiritual economics based on the principle of the tithe (ma'aser), which has been operating for thousands of years.
