Jul 25, 2023 ) With All Your Might Statement: As part of the mitzvah to recite twice daily the words of the Shema, “Hear, O Israel, HaShem is our G-d, HaShem is One!”[1] we say the following: ‫ וְָאהַ בְָּת‬You should love ‫ אֵת ה' אֱֹלקֶיָך‬the L-rd, your G-d ‫ ְּב כָל לְ בָ בְָך‬with all your heart ‫ ּובְ כָל נַפְְׁשָך‬and with all your soul ‫ ּובְ כָל מְא ֹדֶ ָך‬and with all your might.[2] On the words, “‫ ּובְ כָל מְא ֹדֶ ָך‬- and with all your might” the simple explanation given by Rashi is “with all your possessions. The connection between loving HaShem and loving others is supported since the words “‫ה‬-ָ‫ֹו‬-‫ה‬-ְ ‫ וְָאהַ בְתָּ לְרֵ עַָך כָּמֹוָך אֲ נִי י‬- love your fellow as yourself I am G-d” and the words “ ‫וְָאהַ בְתָּ אֵת‬ ‫ ה' אֱֹלקֶיָך‬- and you shall love G-d your G-d” both have the same numerical value of 907. Through this service of love, we will merit ‫ וַ אֲ הֵ בְָך וּבֵרַ כְָך‬- He will love you and bless you[6] with a bounty of physical and spiritual blessings till we’ll experience the ultimate expression of love with the final redemption. Question: Even though Rashi points out that there are some people who value their possessions more than their own self, most people would logically agree that life is far more important than money or possessions. If loving HaShem “with all your soul,” means to love HaShem to the point even if G‑d takes your soul,[3] surely this level of sacrifice is certainly far higher than giving Tzedaka (possessions). and he is obligat
