Schneerson Adapted from Chassidic Dimensions PARSHAS TAZRIYA 5784 Tazriah TA Z R I A H "A R O U S A L F R O M B E L O W " At the beginning of the Torah portion Tazria, we read: "When a woman conceives and gives birth to a boy...."1 In terms of man's spiritual service, "When a woman conceives" refers to a spiritual service aroused from below, rather than one that emanates from G-d.2 This is because "male" and "female" in their spiritual context refer to G-d and the Jewish people. This "recipient" quality is found in every Jew, for even a Jew who is tender in years or knowledge has the ability to "receive" in a manner that will bear fruit - "and gives birth." With the above in mind, we will be able to understand Rashi's comment on "when a woman conceives." Rashi states: "R. so too is his Torah." For on this level, man's very being, "his 5 Torah Studies creation," leads him to Torah - similar to the theme of the verse:5 "From my own flesh I behold G-dliness." However, man finds himself in a world that conceals G-dliness, a world where Torah is not in a state of revelation. so too..." indicates that the laws concerning man are related last not because man was created last, or the Midrash would have stated: "Since man was created last, therefore...." Rather, man's laws are related last for the same reason that man was created last. The Alter Rebbe explains10 that the very fact that man is capable of sin, even if he never actually sins, implies a degree of inferiority in comparison to those creatures who are "incapable of violating G-d's will."11 This capacity for sin is why man's laws are stated after those of all other creatures, and is the reason for his being created after all others.
