Even if a person falls to the lowest place—even the depths of Gehinnom, G-d forbid—nonetheless, he must not give up on Hashem in any way, since even from there it is possible to come close to Him, as the verse says, “The entire world is filled with His glory.” In essence, a true tzaddik is only someone who has the power to strengthen and uplift those who have fallen very far. He must be able to encourage and awaken them, and he must know how to reveal to them that Hashem is still with them, next to them, and close to them, since “the entire world is filled with His glory.” At the same time, a true tzaddik must also have the ability to show those on a high level that they don’t know anything about Hashem’s greatness, which is an aspect of what it says in the Zohar HaKadosh, “What have you perceived?
