Questions for Sidra משפטים 1. This Sidra follows on directly from the Giving of the Torah reported in last week’s Sidra. How could the Bnei Yisroel be expected to learn all the various laws in this week’s Sidra, covering so many different areas of law, so soon after receiving the Ten Commandments? 2. This week’s Sidra, with its long list of laws and commandments, starts off with the letter åand Rashi points out that this is a conjunction. So what does this conjunction teach us, that is, why indeed are these two Sidras next to each other? 3. Why is it so important that we recognize that íé îùäï ú, that the Law of the îäøå Torah is from HaShem? 4. Why should the very first law be about acquiring a Hebrew servitor? Is there no more important law to teach that this particular law has to be the very first? 5. So many of the laws of the Torah are about cows and sheep and fields and suchlike agricultural matters and scenarios. How can these laws be applied to the modern world of cars and computers and factories? 6. The Torah teaches various different rules for the return and restitution of stolen property.
