That phrase, “Ki ani Hashem rofecha,” is a posuk in Shmos (15:26 – which btw cand stand for two names of Hashem, Kah which is equal to fifteen, and Ado-nai which is equal to 26.) Just before that phrase, it says, “All the maladies I placed on Egypt I will NOT place on you.” Therefore, when the Sages told us two weeks ago that Hashem sent hundreds of plagues upon the Egyptians, they were guaranteeing us protection from all of them, as this month represents the promise to heal us if we listen to Hashem and heed His mitzvos. When one sees it, he is to go to the Kohain and say, “I have seen something that looks like an affliction of tzara’as on my house.” He does not definitively say, “I have seen an affliction of tzara’as on my house.” It is not because were he to say so it would be impure. R’ Schach said, “If you hurt your daughter and treat her like a captive, it’s no wonder she will rebel.” The girl ended up calling off her relationship; not because of her father’s rage, but because of the love and understanding of a holy rabbi. Spelled out in Hebrew, it is said to stand for, “Ani Hashem (two yuds) Rofecha – I am G-d, your Healer.” At the time of Sefiras HaOmer, when the students of Rabbi Akiva became ill and died, this is a great promise. Similarly, in life, we face many challenges and hardships, but we can never definitively say “this is an affliction” for it may very well be G-d’s way of providing us a blessing in a way we would never imagine. Yes, tzora’as, the skin disease that we read about in the Torah, which leads to discolorations on the skin and investigation by the Kohain, and of course, being sent outside the camp to sit in solitude. The Sforno writes that when the order was given to clean out the house, the homeowner would be urged to look at his deeds to repent and pray, and the Kohain would pray for him as well. Even if he were wise and an expert in the laws of tzara’as, the Kohain may render it pure by mistake and it will be so, so he might unwittingly say something false. The Torah tells us that when a person sees this blemish on his home, HaShem gives him numerous opportunities to rectify it before anything is declared impure.
