The cycle begins with Peasach, ascends to Shavuos (with sefiras ha’omer playing a significant role in the progression), then to the Yamim Nora’im, and finally the climax of Sukkos - a marriage with Hashem, Hoshanah Rabba, and Simchas Torah serving as the “cheder yichud” with Hashem amid ultimate closeness. We have previously explained that Channukah is a time of light within the darkness, a time within a marriage when despite falling out and arguments, despite not keeping our kabalos of neilah, despite not living up to our she’ifos of Simchas Torah, we “make up” with Hashem. As we explained last week, the words “v’asu li mikdash v’shachanti besocham” allude to the fact that the Beis Hamikdash does not only exist in a physical sense - “besocho” - but also within the hearts of kol yachid v’yachid - “bi’levavi mishkan evneh”. We will create that place within our hearts, and when we drink, and our da’as goes we will not be left with emptiness, on the contrary, that is when our love for Hashem will come out and we will connect to Him in the deepest possible way. In order to love, connect, and have a real relationship with Hashem, we must go deep within our hearts and make a mikdash, a place dedicated to Hashem and only Hashem; a place to connect to Him and to nurture our deep love for Him. At this point we must transcend, move to a higher level, a level of ahavas Hashem, a level of connecting to Hashem in a deeper way, and building a true deep and meaningful connection with Hashem from within the heart. Each year anew we take not just the Torah, we take the entire person that we have built throughout the year and bring it from the realm of knowledge to the realm of deep connection, of love deep within our hearts. It was a beis va’ad and a meeti
