The Sages teach that when a person places his trust in Hashem alone, He declares: “You have trusted in My name; I swear that this merit will stand for you!” ‫ כִ י הּוא יַׁצִ ילְּ ָך מִ פַׁ ח יקּוש מִ דֶ בֶ ר הַׁ ּוֹות‬.3 For He will spare you from entrapment and from devastating pestilence. [Alternatively, the latter phrase means: Hashem's Truth (i.e., the Torah) is a shield for whoever is involved with its study.] ‫ ל ֹא תִ ירא מִ פַׁ חַׁ ד ליְּלה מֵׁ חֵׁ ץ יעּוף יֹומם‬.5 You shall not fear from the dread of night, from the arrow that flies by day.
