PARSHAS VAYIKRAH ‫תשפ"ג‬ RAV BRAZIL PARSHAS VAYIKRAH ‫תשפג‬ THE IRON FURNACE AND YAAKOV'S CHAINS On the word ‫( וימאן‬Bereishis 39,8) that Yosef refused to sin with the wife of Potifar, the cantillation note is ‫ שלשלת‬which is equivalent to three ‫ פזר‬notes in one. The gemarah in Shabbos 89 says ‫ראוי היה יעקב אבינו לירד למצרים בשלשלאות של ברזל אלא שזכותו גרמה לו דכתיב (הושע‬ ‫יא ד) בחבלי אדם אמשכם בעבותות אהבה‬ Yaakov Avinu was deserving to descend to Mitzrayim in iron chains like the manner of people who are taken into exile. In the sefer ‫ מעין בית השואבה‬he explains that this is the reason that Yosef orchestrated the fulfillment of his dream which was a prophecy that Yaakov, the sun, and the stars, the Shevatim, would come to bow down to him at the time he was still a ruler in Mitzrayim. That is why when the Torah gives the yichus of mishpachas Levi (Shmos 7,20) they mention also the wives of Amram, Moshe, Aharon, and Eleazar as well because the woman played a major role in the geulah of Mitzrayim for the reason above. That is another reason why women should bake ‫ חלות‬because through their tikkun in Mitzrayim to bring the geulah, the Challah of the world Adam Harishon came to his tikkun ‫( פסקה זוהמתן‬Shabbos146) through Bnei Yisrael. All this is hinted in the passuk (Devarim 32,9) ‫כי חלק ה' עמו יעקב חבל נחלתו‬ Because Yaakov is a portion of Hashem he was given the ‫ חבל של אהבה‬for his sickness which was going to galus in Mitzrayim ‫עכת"ד‬. In essence it was his ‫וימאן‬, his refusal to lie with her that made him a ruler and it facilitated the fulfillment of his dream and Yaakov Avinu's not descending to Mitzrayim is ‫ שלשלאות‬but rather with love. The Imahos (unlike Chava is wasn't their choice) also caused an infusion of tumah from being the daughters of Lavan which also brought about a detour called Galus Mitzrayim in order to receive the two Luchos. This interpretation is hinted in the ‫ שלשלת‬note of ‫ וימאן‬that through this, Yaakov will not go down to bondage to Mitzrayim like a person going into exile with shackles on his body.
