Usually, Rashi would say something to the effect of "We find in the Midrash Tanchumah," or as he often does, he could have stated the explanation and, at its conclusion, cited the source. This also explains Rashi's comments on the previous verse13, "blue, purple… sheish." Rashi explains "blue" as wool dyed with the blood of the chilazon14 which bears a blue color."
