Facebuker Shabbos Table Talk — Terumah 5783

Выпуск: Facebuker Shabbos Table Talk — Terumah 5783. Темы: parsha_commentary. Поисковые термины: недельная глава, парша, parsha, פרשה, פרשת השבוע. (Shmos 26:30) The Talmud asks, “Is there a rule or judgment for wood?” It answers, “Rather, the beam that merited to stand in the north should be placed in the north (the next time.) In the south, it should be placed in the south.” What we learn from this is that if someone has a special role, we do not take it away from them and give it to someone else for no reason. Additionally, when being thoughtful about the feelings of others, even if one never actually got the position, but was only considered for it and perhaps promised it, or even if they merely believe themselves deserving of it, we must be aware and try to avoid paining them. This is to teach us that when it comes to Torah and understanding G-d’s commands, (symbolized by the Ark) we must always consider ourselves lacking; that there’s more to learn to become complete. Hashem asks us to give gifts for the Mishkan/Tabernacle, “whosever heart lifts him up and desires to give.” Shouldn’t Hashem appreciate the gifts of whatever people decide they feel like giving? "And they shall make Me a sanctuary and I will dwell within them." (Exodus 25:8) We would have thought that the verse would conclude, “and I will dwell in it”. We always say, “It’s the thought that counts.” Why now does Hashem provide us an inventory of the various gifts we are to bring, down to quantity and color? In that case, though the beams weren’t actually there, they were as good as established since Hashem had already constructed the Mishkan in His desire. Isn’t it a bit tacky to say, “I’ll love whatever you feel like giving me,” and then list off precisely what you want to see when you open the box? Hashem told Moshe, “Take a tribute for Me.” It doesn’t say give, because as we learn how to be closer to Hashem, we are the ones benefiting. This is a very compelling lesson which should give us pause before we do something that may make another feel “less” than they were before.
