Upon arrival in Israel, eleven members of the group will study in the Old City of Jerusalem, and eleven will make their residence in the ancient city of Safed, in the northern Galilee. Thousands gathered at the El-Al terminal in New York to see the group off, and about nine hours later, thousands more gathered at the airport near Tel Aviv to welcome them to Israel. The group was accompanied by Rabbi Mordechai Mentlik, Dean of the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva in Brooklyn. Eight of the students are married, and some have young children who are joining them in their mission.
