We know that Yehoshua never left Moshe's side; as the Torah writes12, "his attendant, Yehoshua the son of Nun, a lad, would never depart from his (Moshe's) tent." This being the case, it is evident that Yehoshua was present with Moshe. Rashi then clarifies that despite his ascent to greatness, "he humbled himself as he was at the beginning (when he was still called Hoshea)."
