Rabbeinu Meir of Narvona (Rebbe of Rabbeinu Manoach and friend of the Rambam) in sefer Me’oras writes that everything is dependent on what one did when he was alive, if when alive he did good things that gave him zechusim to protect himself and his family then good, and if not, it’s too late, ‫אך אין אחר הקבר תפילה ותחינה לא‬ ‫“ – על עצמו ולא על בניו הנשארים‬However, there is no prayer and supplication once in the grave, neither for oneself nor for one’s remaining children.” 4) We don’t find such a concept in the Torah. The Ri bar Yakar the Rebbe of Rashi also seems to hold that it’s okay to daven directly to the tzadik as he writes that in a beis hakevoras one should daven a tefillah to Hashem, and then he should say to the dead tzadik: ‫התפללו לפניו שיקבל‬ ‫“ – תפילותינו‬daven before Him, so that He accepts our tefillos.” The minhag Yisrael during a levayah is to ask during the hespedim that the niftar should be melitz yoshar for his family, talmidim, relatives and friends. In Hilchos Erev Rosh Hashanah (end of siman 581) the Rema brings from the Kol- Bo: ‫“ – ויש מקומות נוהגין לילך על הקברות ולהרבות שם בתחנות‬There are places where it is customary to go to kevorim [graves] and to increase with lots of techinas [supplications] whilst there.” The Droshas Maharil (H
