The first explanation is offered by Rav Ovadyah Bartenurah who observes that the two words '‫אנא ה‬and ‫אני והו‬are numerically equivalent; the two phrases both equal 78, which is also the numerical value of the word (in Aramaic form, the form most commonly used for this word in Kabbalah) ‫מזלא‬, meaning “[good] fortune.” Another explanation is based on the Zohar. SUKKOS IN EGYPT )‫ט‬,‫' לָנוּ (שמות י‬-‫וַ יּ ֹאמֶ ר מֹשֶ ה בִּ ּ נְ עָ ֵרינוּ וּבִּ זְ קֵ נֵינוּ נֵ ל ְֵך בְ ּ בָ נֵינוּ וּבִּ בְ נוֹתֵ נוּ בְ ּ צֹאנֵנוּ וּבִּ בְ קָ ֵרנוּ נֵ ל ְֵך כִּּ י חַ ג‬ Moshe said, “With our youth and with our elders we will go! A person should not even say that the item appears to be overpriced so that it would not appear that the “word of HaShem is spoiled.” Chayei Adam also writes that one should pay full price as Dovid states (II Shmuel 24,24) that he would pay the price and rather not offer to HaShem korbanos if he purchased the site for the Bais HaMikdash for nothing. Rejoicing before HaShem: The Rambam (ibid), on the other hand, implies that this celebration was associated with the mitzvah to rejoice on Sukkos: “Although we are commanded to rejoice on all the holidays, on the holiday of Sukkos there was exceptional joy in the Beis HaMikdash, as the possuk says, ‘You shall rejoice before HaShem, Your G-d, for seven days.” The Rambam makes no mention of the nisuch hamayim as a reason for the celebration.
