The reason given by the Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chaim 430:1) is: ‫“ – שבת שלפני הפסח קורין אותו שבת הגדול מפני הנס שנעשה בו‬The Shabbos before Pesach is called “Shabbos HaGadol” because of the miracle that was performed.” The Mishnah Berurah explains, that the year Klal Yisroel left Mitzrayim the 10th of Nissan fell on Shabbos, and on this Shabbos all the Yidden took sheep to bring as a Korban Pesach. The Gemara brings a drosha: ‫“ – סומא פטור מלומר הּגדה כתיב הכא ״בעבור זה״ וכתיב התם ״בננו זה״ מה להלן פרט לסומא אף כאן פרט לסומין‬A blind person is exempt from saying Haggadah, it says (in regards to Sippur Yetzias Mitzrayim) and “because of this” and it is written here (in regards to a ben sorer u’morer, the stubborn and rebellious son) “this son of ours”, just like there it excludes someone (a parent) who is blind (“zeh – this” connotes that one can see the matter discussed), so to here, it excludes one who is blind.” The Gemara then asks: ‫איני והאמר מרימר שאלתינהו לרבנן דבי רב יוסף מאן דאמר אגדתא בי רב יוסף אמרו רב יוסף מאן דאמר אגדתא בי רב ששת‬ ‫“ – אמרו רב ששת‬Is that so?
