The Toras Kohanim explains that the curse: “– ותם לריק כחכםyour strength will be spent in vain” (Vayikra 26:33) – refers to a man giving a large dowry to his daughter for her marriage, only for her to die shortly thereafter, thereby causing the possessions and money for which her father worked so hard to be transferred out of his family. In this week’s parsha we are told once again about the mitzvah of Shabbos, towards the end of the parsha the pasuk says: '“ – את שבבתי תשמרו ומקדשי תיראו אני הYou shall guard my Shabbosois and you shall fear my Mikdosh, I am Hashem” (Vayikra 26:6). בס״ד משה למודי גליון קע״א- בחוקתי/ בהר Insights Into Halachah Early Shabbos and Its Halachos As spring continues its inexorable march towards summer and the days become longer and longer, more and more Yidden, especially in Chutz La’aretz, start to embrace the mitzvah of mosifin al ha’kodesh [adding on to the holy day of Shabbos] by starting Shabbos early. The Baal Haturim points out, that in the aforementioned pasuk the Torah writes about guarding ( )תשמרוthe Shabbos after mentioning Shabbos, however, elsewhere the Torah writes: שמור את “ – יום השבתGuard the day of Shabbos”, mentioning guarding ( )שמורShabbos, before mentioning Shabbos.
