Divrei Shaagasi — Vayikra 5783

Выпуск: Divrei Shaagasi — Vayikra 5783. Темы: не определены автоматически. Statement: Starting with the book of Vayikra, we enter the mystifying world of Korbonos - sacrifices where the second pasuk states: ‫ ָאדָ ם‬A person ‫ כִּי־יַקְרִ יב מִ כֶּם‬when he will bring close from among you '‫ ׇקרְ בָּן לַה‬a sacrifice to HaShem… Questions: When discussing the giving of sacrifices, why does the Torah use the word ‫ ָאדָ ם‬to describe such a person instead of the more common word ‫ ?אִישׁ‬What does this name choice have to do with Korbonos? Also, grammatically speaking, according to many[1] the pasuk should have instead said, “‫ ָאדָ ם מִ כֶּם כִּי יַקְרִ יב‬- a person from among you when he brings near….” Answer: Perhaps we could say that since the word ‫ ָאדָ ם‬is related to ‫הָ ֽאֲדָ מָ ֽה‬-ground, the ability to give and sacrifice is related to those who have lowered and humbled themselves. Indeed, this idea is reflected in the verse from Tehillim where it says: “‫ – גַּם־בְּ נֵי ָאדָ ם גַּם־בְּ נֵי־אִישׁ יַחַד עָ שִׁיר וְ אֶ בְיֹון‬Both the sons of "adam," and the sons of "ish," together rich and poor.”[2] Shamshon Raphael Hirsch says, “the sons of man (‫ )ּבְ נֵי־אִישׁ‬are people who derive social and financial advantage through the fact that they can trace their ancestry back to men of distinction. Meaning that the word ‫ ָאדָ ם‬in this pasuk refers to Avraham, who is the quintessential model of humility, as seen in our forefather’s expression of “‫ – וְָאנֹכִי עָ פָר וָ אֵ פֶר‬Abraham spoke up, saying, ‘Here I venture to speak to my lord, I who am but dust and ashes.”[3] So what do Korbonos have to do with the attribute of humility? The pasuk is phrased this way since it could be translated as follows: ‫[ ָאדָ ם‬When] A person [who is humbled] ‫[ כִּי־יַקְרִ יב מִ כֶּם‬then] he will bring close from among you '‫ ׇקרְ בָּן לַה‬a sacrifice to HaShem… Lesson: Of the various words to describe a person, the title of ‫ ָאדָ ם‬is the highest. Each of these denote successively lower levels of spirituality.[7] The Lubavitcher Rebbe ‫ זי״ע‬writes: “In describing the unique qualities of humankind, Adam-‫ ָאדָ ם‬refers to the quality of mind and intellect; Ish-‫ אִישׁ‬to the quality of heart and emotion; Enosh-‫אֱנוֹשׁ‬, weakness in either intellect or emotion or both; Gever-‫גֶבֶר‬, one who overcomes inner weakness and removes obstacles and hindrances to the attainment of intellectu
