The four days in between Yom Kippur and Succos still carry heavily the impressions of Yom Kippur to the point that Chazal say on the passuk concerning the first day of Succos ‫ ולקחתם לכם ביום הראשון‬that this is the first day when new sins are counted. The five afflictions of Yom Kippur together with the kedusha of this day, negate our external bodies to the point that we can actually contact our most inner soul and therefore enter the inner light of this world which is Olam Habah even while being physically in this world. Since Yom Kippur is such an "other worldly" day of experiencing the pristine state of Olam Habah without the pulsating sensation and taavos of our physical body, the transition back to this world of materialism is not a simple task or journey. This is to convey that in contrast to Shabbos which is called ‫ מעין עולם הבא‬when we receive from the "outside" a similarity to the Next World, on Yom Kippur we experience a real aspect of being in the Next World. It is the Five Tefillos of Yom Kippur that replace the five physically afflictions in sustaining us throughout the day since we are compared to angels and our bodies don't need physical sustenance at all only spiritual. On the 50th year of Shemittah Yovel, the shofar is sounded on Yom Kippur with the proclamation that all slaves must be sent free and everyone must surrender his possession of land and return it to its original owner. zeevmainoffice@gmail.com RAV BRAZIL YOM KIPPUR ‫תשפה‬ THE CLOSURE OF YOM KIPPUR – A SHOFAR BLAST At the end of Tefillas N'eelah the custom is to blow shofar and everyone says ‫לשנה הבאה בירושלים‬. However, now we are devoted and inspired anew to overcome our yetzer harah longing to return to the Yom Kippur experience of Olam Habah which at that time will be forever ‫שבת שבתון שבתון‬. So too, the holy state of Yom Kippur continues with its spiritual light for a few days until Succos when we return once again to the temporary world of everyday challenges and hardships.
