Today is Shabbos and it is forbidden to pick me today!” What could possibly be better than a time when “The earth will be filled with the knowledge of G-d, as the waters cover the sea”? During the dawn of this era, when computers were first being introduced to the pri- vate sector, each was accompanied by a college textbook-sized user’s manual. With the advent of the user inter- face, one had simply to learn the English language and he/she could use a mouse to click on any program desired. In recent years, tech- nology has advanced so far, that the rodent-weary can now use their own fingers to operate a device as thin as paper. As our Sages teach, in those days even the fig on the tree will cry out, warning the one who reaches out to pluck it on Shabbos, “Stop! The solution to every problem will become obvious, questions will dissolve to nothingness as the answers become self-apparent. It took many years (and several college dropouts), until the com- puter could really become an everyday, household item. Jobs, once held by humans, are now being reassigned to the more precise, consistent, and cost efficient robot. We are told, however, about the times of Moshiach, when spiritu- ality will be abundant and accessible to all. The current time period, the time of exile, is comparable to the days of the now obsolete, ancient computers.
