At the end of the Seudah, when all the Mashke had already worn off, the Rebbe turned to R’ Itche and asked, “Itche, why don’t you tell your story?” Left without the courage the Mashke had given him, R’ Itche replied, “At this time, I am not able to tell the story anymore.” ‫לע"נ הרה"ת ר' יוסף יצחק ב"ר אשר ז"ל‬ R’ Itche agreed and shared the following: Amongst Chabad Chassidim, it was known that the Alter Rebbe had said, in the name of the Maggid of Mezrich, that Moshiach will either come from the Maggid’s eldest Chasid, R’ Mottel Chernobler, or from his youngest Chasid, the Alter Rebbe. Once, R’ Shmerel Batumer met up with his close friend, R’ Itche Der Masmid A”H, in Charkov, Ukraine, and told him that the way the Rambam qualifies what type of person Moshiach will be is a perfect description of the Frierdiker Rebbe (the Rebbe at the time). After spending a beautiful Shabbos together, these two great Tzadikim had a lengthy conversation on Motzei Shabbos, during which they discussed many deep and holy concepts, and the Alter Rebbe told R’ Mottel his intention for traveling to see him. “I had a burning desire to tell the Frierdiker Rebbe this entire story, that the Rebbe is a descendant from both the oldest and youngest Talmidim of the Maggid, from whom the Maggid said Moshiach would come,” said R Itche. “The Rebbe is a descendant of David HaMelech, he is the only one fighting Hashem’s war at this time, and he is constantly involved in Torah study and doing Mitzvos,” R’ Shmerel excitedly said, to illustrate his point. The Alter Rebbe went to every crib and touched each of the baby’s foreheads until he stopped by one particular crib and chose that baby as a Shidduch for his grandchild, and so R’ Mottel set that crib to the side. ‫לע"נ הרה"ת ר' יוסף יצחק ב"ר אשר ז"ל‬ B"H ‫ספורי‬ THE FRIERDIKER REBBE AND R' ITCHE DER ‫חסידים‬ MASMID In the house, there were a few babies sleeping, their cribs spread out throughout different rooms.
