For additional sponsorship opportunities, or questions on the project, email me at lessonsinlikutaytorah@gmail.com 3 LESSONS IN LIKUTAY TORAH Likutay Torah ‫לִ קּ וּ טֵ י תּ וֹ ָרה‬ ַׁ ַׁ‫פ ָָּּרשַׁת מטוֹ ת‬ ‫מַ אֲ מָ ר‬ ַׁ ַׁ1 ַׁ‫וְ שָּ מעַׁאָּ בִ יהָּ ַׁאֶ תַׁנִדְ ָּרה‬ ַׁ '‫ַדף פ"ד עַ מוד ד‬ “Loving Hashem through Being Careful with Mitzvos” The beginning of Parshas Matos discusses the laws of nullifying vows, including the particular laws of a father nullifying the vows of his daughter. The verse states, as follows: (Bamidbar 30:5) ‫“ "וְ שָּ מע ַׁאָּ בִ יהָּ ַׁאֶ תַׁ נ ְִד ָּרהַׁ ַׁ וֶ אֱ סָ ָרה אֲ שֶ ר‬And if her father will hear her ‫ אָ סְ ָרה עַ ל־נַפְ שָ ה וְ הֶ חֱ ִריש לָה אָ בִ יהָ וְ קָ מו‬vow or her prohibition, which she ‫ כָל־נְדָ ֶריהָ וְ כָל־אִ סָ ר אֲ שֶ ר־אָ סְ ָרה עַ ל־‬placed on herself and her father :)‫ ה‬,‫ נַפְ שָ ה יָקום׃ "ַׁ (פָרָ שָ תֵ נו ל‬will remain silent [and not nullify the vow immediately], then all of the vows and prohibitions that she places on herself will be effective.” The Torah gives a father the ability to nullify his young daughter’s vows or voluntary prohibitions. ‫ בְ כַ מָ ה‬.‫ ב מְ נַחֵ ם אָ ב (אוֹ בְ רֹאש ח ֶֹדש מְ נַחֵ ם אָ ב) תקנ"ו‬,‫ (נֶ אֱ מַ ר בְ שַ בָת פָ ָרשַ ת מַ טוֹת־מַ סְ עֵ י‬1 ‫ נוֹ סַ ח אַ חֵ ר נ ְִד פַס בְ מַ אַ מְ ֵר י אַ ְדמו"ר הַ זָקֵ ן‬."‫כִ תְ בֵ י יָד מַ תְ חִ יל "לְהָ בִ ין עִ נְ יַן ִד ְקדוקֵ י סוֹפְ ִר ים‬ .)‫הַ ְקצ ִָר ים עַ מוד צב בְ הֶ מְ שֵ ךְ ל ְִדבור הַ מַ תְ חִ יל "אֶ ת קָ ְרבָ נִ י לַחְ מִ י" – עַ יֵין שָ ם בְ הֶ עָ ָרה‬ LESSONS IN LIKUTAY TORAH 4 2 ַׁ"‫לְ הָּ בִ יַׁןַַׁׁעִ נְ יַָּׁןַַׁׁ"ַׁ ִד ְקדוקַׁיַַׁׁסוֹפְ ִריַׁם‬ We need to un
