For the Exodus itself the different dimensions are : the historical event some 3300 years ago; the way we remember it each year at the Seder Night, and indeed every day of the year; and the way it will even be remembered (in a muted form) in the time of Moshiach. That is the inner meaning of the prophecy9 that in the future, ‘living water’ will burst forth from Jerusalem, the utterly exalted root of the souls of the Jewish people, and then that will flow to and affect the Yam Hakadmoni, the Primeval mystical ‘Sea’ beyond the down-chaining of worlds, revealing the secret of the Essence in our daily lives. This strengthens the question: why does this verse in Isaiah compare the future Redemption with the Exodus, as if there were some special quality about 1 Maamar Veheherim Hashem et leshon Yam Mitzyrayim 5734 (1974), said on Acharon shel Pesach. The Splitting of the Sea when we say the Shema is that we reach our own transcendent aspect, our deepest will and delight, and let this flow in a revealed way into our positive qualities of wisdom and understanding, love and awe, and so on. Another verse, ‘like the days of your going out of Egypt I will show you wonders’4 is explained by the Zohar to mean that the wonders at the time of the Redemption will be wondrous even in comparison to the miracles of the Exodus. The splitting of the river into seven streams, which is explained as being in order to bring the Jews from seven different kinds of exile, is different from the splitting of the Red Sea into twelve channels, one for each tribe. Through the service of ‘Splitting the Sea’ every day we reach closer to the Splitting of the Sea as it will be in the future, when on all levels of the Sefirot there will be exalted revelations of the Div
