Source The Gemara in Berachos (47b) says: ‫לעולם ישכים אדם לבוא לבית הכנסת כדי שיהא מעשרה ראשונים שאפילו מאה באים אחריו‬ ‫“ – קבל עליו שכר כולם‬A person should awake early in order that he will be amongst the first ten people in shul – then even if a hundred people come afterwards, he get the rewards of all them”. Since he helped make up the ten people, he in effect brought the Shechina to come – Since he brought the Shechina down (and all subsequent people who come to shul will be graced with the presence of the Shecinah) it is fitting that he gets reward equal to all of them.” The Aruch HaShulchan adds: ‫“ – ודווקא שיתפלל עמהם‬specifically if he davens with them”. All Tefillos Many people struggle to get up early, however, they shouldn’t be disheartened, as even if one doesn’t make it for Shacharis, the Kaf HaChaim (90:99) says, the halachah of asorah rishonim applies to Mincha and Ma’ariv as well: ‫ואם אי‬ ‫“ – אפשר לו לקיימה בשחרית ישתדל לקיימה במנחה וערבית‬if one can’t do it by Shacharis, he should try to it by Mincha and Ma’ariv”. The Kaf HaChaim (90:96) and Elyah Rabbah (90:17) bring Rabbeinu Yonah who says: ‫כל אחד מעשרה נוטל שכר כל הבאים‬ ‫ אבל בעשרה הראשונים עצמן אין דין קדימה לאחד על חבירו‬,‫“ – אחריהם‬the first ten get reward equal to all those who come subsequently, however, amongst the first ten there is no significance between being number one or number ten”. Then they (Kaf HaChaim and Elyah Rabbah) bring the Madanay Melech who says: ‫דאף בעשרה עצמן כל הקודם זכה שראשון‬ ‫“ – נוטל שכר התשעה וכל הבאים אחריהם והשני נוטל שכר השמונה והבאים אחריהם ועל דרך זה כל העשרה‬Even amongst the first ten, whoever comes earlier gets more reward. The Kaf HaChaim (90:96) says, that even if one isn’t able to be one of the asorah rishonim he should do his best to be as early as he can, ‫“ – שכל המקדי
