Source of the Obligation In this week’s parsha the Torah teaches: ‫ ואם‬.‫לא תראה את שור אחיך או את שיו נדחים והתעלמת מהם השב תשיבם לאחיך‬ ‫ וכן תעשה לחמרו וכן תעשה‬.‫לא קרוב אחיך אליך ולא ידעתו ואספתו אל תוך ביתך והיה עמך עד דרש אחיך אתו והשבתו לו‬ .‫“ – לשמלתו וכן תעשה לכל אבדת אחיך אשר תאבד ממנו ומצאתה לא תוכל להתעלם‬You shall not see the lost ox or lamb of your brother and ignore them; you shall certainly return them to your brother.
