RASHI’S PROOF In the section of our parshah describing what Yehoshua and Kalev said t0 the Jewish people regarding entering the Land of Israel, the verse says:6 “Only, against Hashem, do not rebel; and you, do not fear, ‫אל תיראו‬, the people of the land, for they are our bread;7 their protection has departed from them, etc.” In his caption, Rashi quotes the words “do not rebel” and explains: “and consequently, will not fear.”8 Commentators9 explain that Rashi intends to point out that the next clause of the verse “and you, do not fear…” is not a distinct statement.
