(Parsha Perspectives) An Enabler or Facilitator Gets Credit As if He Was the Doer The pasuk in the beginning of Parshas Acharei Mos says: ‫ומאת עדת בני ישראל יקח‬ ‫ שני שעירי עזים לחטאת ואיל אחד לעלה‬- “From the assembly of Bnei Yisrael he shall take two he-goats for a sin-offering and one ram for a burnt-offering.” (Vayikra 16:5) The Kohen Gadol brought korbanos for himself, for the Kohanim and for all of Klal Yisrael. He brings that there is already a source for this in the Maharshal (Yam Shel Shlomah, Yevamos 12:18) who writes: ‫ יזהר שלא לגלח כל עיקר‬,‫ ואף שלא כעין התער‬- “Even when not using something which cuts close like a razor, one should be careful not to cut any part of it.” Nonetheless, practically he concludes that from a halachic perspective it is permissible for one to shorten his peyos.
