See also Rashi to Shmos 12:6) Indeed, the Mitzvah of Bikur Cholim requires more than just visiting someone who is ill, it also requires to take an interest in the ill person’s situation, to try and fulfill their needs, to talk to them, to comfort them etc., details of which we will now begin to review. 3) Just as Bikur Cholim can be fulfilled in regard to the physical well-being as well as the spiritual wellbeing of the sick man or woman, so too, the one performing the Mitzvah can do so physically, financially and spiritually (See Kitzur Shl”ah page 296) Physically: it is a Mitzvah to tend to the actual needs of the sick person.
