We start by quoting the verse from Shir HaShirim relating to Elul, and we show how it expresses the idea of Hashem’s compassion on our Divine soul: )‫(א‬ Chapter 1: "‫"אֲ ני לְ דוֹדיַׁוְ דוֹדיַׁליַׁהָּ רַׁוַֹׁ עֶ הַׁבשוֹשנים‬ “I am connected to the One that I :)‫ ג‬,‫(שִּ יר הַ שִּ ירִּ ים ו‬ love (meaning to Hashem), and the One who loves me is connected to me, He nourishes me with roses.” (Shir HaShirim 6:3) ,‫הִּ נֵּ ה שוֹשַ נָה יֵּש בָה תְּ לִּ יסַ ר עָ לִּין‬ One of the explanations that Hashem nourishes me by feeding me roses is that "roses" here is a reference to a specific type of rose, which has thirteen petals, 2 "‫כְּ נֶ גֶ ד "י"ג מְּ כִּ ילִּ ין ְּד ַרחֲ מֵּ י‬ which corresponds to the “thirteen attributes of (Hashem’s) mercy,” ‫ל‬- ֵּ‫ מִּ י א‬-‫ יח־כ) "א‬,‫שֶ בַ פָסוק (מִּ יכָה ז‬ which are specified in the verses in ‫ לִּשְּ אֵּ ִּרית‬-‫ וְּ עֹבֵּר עַ ל־פֶשַ ע ד‬-‫ נֹשֵּ א עָ וֺן ג‬-‫כָמוֹ ךָ ב‬ Micha, (7:18-20) “1- Who is like you ‫ כִּ י־חָ פֵּץ חֶ סֶ ד‬-‫ ל ֹא־הֶ חֱ זִּיק לָעַ ד אַ פוֹ ו‬-‫נַחֲ לָתוֹ ה‬ Hashem; 2- Who pardons iniquity; ְּ ‫ וְּ תַ שְּ ל‬
