Nadav and Avihu died on Rosh which come after the communication of the mishpatim, and Chodesh Nisan during the Mishkan’s dedication, and the represent the conclusion to the description of Ma’amad Har seventy elders died with the ‫ – מִ תְ אֹנְ נִ ים‬the complainers in the Sinai that began in last week’s Parsha. ‫וְ אֶ ל מ ֹׁשֶ ה אָ מַ ר עֲ לֵה אֶ ל ה’ אַ תּ ָ ה וְ אַ הֲ רֹן נָדָ ב וַאֲ בִ יהוּא וְ ׁשִ בְ עִ ים מִ זִּ ְקנֵי‬ Hakadosh Baruch Hu instructed Moshe Rabbeinu to return ּ‫יִ שְ ׂ ָראֵ ל וְ הִ ׁשְ תּ ַ חֲ וִ יתֶ ם מֵ ָרחֹק׃ וְ נִ גּ ַׁש מ ֹׁשֶ ה לְ בַ דּ וֹ אֶ ל ה’ וְ הֵ ם ל ֹא יִ גּ ָׁשו‬ and ascend Har Sinai once more. ‫וְ הָ עָ ם ל ֹא יַעֲלוּ עִ מּ וֹ׃‬ ‫ל ֹהֵ י יִ שְ ׂ ָראֵ ל וְ תַ חַ ת ַרגְ לָיו כְּ מַ עֲ שֵׂ ה לִ בְ נַת‬- ֱ‫מִ זִּ ְקנֵי יִ שְ ׂ ָראֵ ל׃ וַ יּ ְִראוּ אֵ ת א‬ ‫וַ יּ ֹאמֶ ר ה’ אֶ ל מ ֹׁשֶ ה עֲ לֵה אֵ לַי הָ הָ ָרה וֶ הְ יֵה ׁשָ ם וְ אֶ תְּ נָה לְ ךָ אֶ ת לֻ חֹת‬ ֹ‫הַ סּ ַ פּ ִ יר וּכְ עֶ צֶ ם הַ ׁ ּשָ מַ יִ ם לָ טֹהַ ר׃ וְ אֶ ל־אֲ צִ ילֵי בְ ּ נֵי יִ שְ ׂ ָראֵ ל ל ֹא ׁשָ לַח יָדו‬ ַ‫הָ אֶ בֶ ן וְ הַ תּ וֹרָ ה וְ הַ מִּ צְ וָה אֲ ׁשֶ ר כּ ָתַ בְ תִּ י לְ הוֹ רֹתָ ם׃ וַ יָּקׇ ם מ ֹׁשֶ ה וִ יהו ֹׁשֻ ע‬ ‫ל ֹהִ ים וַ יּ ֹאכְ לוּ וַ יּ ִׁשְ תּ וּ׃‬- ֱ‫וַ יֶּחֱ זוּ אֶ ת הָ א‬ ּ‫ל ֹהִ ים׃ וְ אֶ ל־הַ זְּ קֵ נִ ים אָ מַ ר ׁשְ בוּ־לָנו‬- ֱ‫מְ ׁשָ ְרתוֹ וַ יַּעַ ל מ ֹׁשֶ ה אֶ ל־הַ ר הָ א‬ ‫בָ זֶה עַ ד אֲ ׁשֶ ר־נ ָׁשוּב אֲ לֵיכֶ ם וְ הִ נּ ֵה אַ הֲ רֹן וְ חוּר עִ מּ ָ כֶ ם מִ י־בַ עַ ל ְדּ בָ ִרים‬ Hashem said to Moshe, “Go up to the Presence of Hashem, ‫יִ גּ ַׁש אֲ לֵהֶ ם׃‬ you, Aharon, Nadav, Avihu, and seventy of the elders of Bnei Yisrael, and prostrate yourselves at a distance. On the words ‫אֶ ת לֻ חֹת הָ אֶ בֶ ן‬, the the incident described in the final pasuk pertains to Nadav, Mabit 2 says (Beit Elokim) the Luchot contained the entirety of Avihu and the seventy elders, who gazed at Hakadosh Baruch the Dibrot – meaning, the Aseret Hadibrot (Ten Hu ‫ – בְ ּ לֵב גַּס מִ תּ וֹךְ אֲ כִ ילָה ו ּׁשְ תִ יָּה‬in an improper manner while Commandments) were laid out evenly across both sides, despite the large discrepancy in length between the first five Commentators
