While the pharaoh of the Exodus lived thousands of years ago, the Ramchal explains that every generation has its own “Pharaoh”—a force that makes us busy, thereby distracting us from reflecting on what truly matters. When we can understand and internalize just how much benefit we receive from the things around us - even inanimate objects - then we can more deeply feel gratitude, and thus feelings of happiness as well.
