The Holy Ruzhiner Rebbe told the following story about his ancestors: When Reb Dov Ber, the Maggid of Mezritch, felt his end drawing near, he declared, "I will not enter the Garden of Eden until G-d sends Moshiach." When the Maggid passed away, he was brought to the Heavenly Court and told that a special place was a waiting him in the Garden of Eden. A vow which is accepted with the consent of the multitude cannot be nullified without the consent of the multitude." In simple words this means that the Rebbe took upon himself a vow that if it came to this point, he would be unable to be enter the Garden of Eden without G-d abiding by the Rebbe's vow. Either you and your wife will be blessed with long and healthy lives, or you will be granted great wealth, or you will be blessed with a son who will be pious, a great scholar and a leader." 8 Without a moment's hesitation, Moshe answered, "My wish is to have a son who will become such a righteous person. Finally, the Baal Shem Tov said to the guard, "Please, go inside, and tell those gathered that someone wishes to enter, and if they refuse, they are putting their own lives in danger." 9 The shaken doorman went inside and conveyed the message to the distinguished assembly. The Baal Shem Tov accepted the book, flipped through the pages, kissed it, and announced: "I see that your work contains pure truth from the beginning to the end; it is because your soul was empowered by the spirit of King Solomon that your writing is so close to its source." Reb Moshe was astounded; how could anyone absorb an entire volume just from quickly ruffling through its pages? After the holidays that year, however, it suddenly occurred to him that throughout the services he was so preoccupied with remembering the tunes, hitting the notes crisply, creating the right emotions through his voice, that he really hadn't thought much about G-d! "Since then," the chazan concluded, "whenever I lead the prayers, I carry with me this piece of paper on which I wrote the Rebbe's message, 'We must remember that we are praying to G-d,' and look at it from time to time
