(from a shiur given on the 2nd of First Adar, 5771) ‫וְ נָתַ תּ ָ֞ אֶ ל־חֹ֣ שׁ ֶ ן הַ מִּ שְׁ ּפ֗ ָ ט אֶ ת־הָ או ִּרים֙ וְ אֶ ת־הַ תּ ֻ מִּ֔ ים וְ הָ יוּ֙ עַ ל־לֵ ֣ ב אַ הֲ רֹ֔ ן בְּ בֹא֖ וֹ לִ פְ ֵ ֣ני י־הוה וְ נָשָ ׂ ֣א א֠ ַ הֲ רֹן אֶ ת־מִ שְׁ ּפ֨ ַ ט בְּ נֵי־‬ (‫ ל‬,‫יִ שְ ׂ ָראֵ ֧ ל עַ ל־לִ בּ ֛ וֹ לִ פְ ֵנ֥י י־הוה תּ ָ מִ ֽ יד )תצוה כח‬ Second Reading: The Urim and the Thummim “Inside the breastplate of judgment, you shall place the Urim and the Thummim so that they are over Aaron’s heart when he comes before Havayah. When the High Priest was presented with a question that required Divine inspiration to answer, the engraved letters on these stones would supernaturally illuminate and the Priest would combine them through the power invested in the holy Name of the Urim and Thummim (‫)או ִּרים וְתֻ מִּ ים‬. Regarding God’s words about Bezalel, the artisan who constructed the Tabernacle, “And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge,” 5 Rashi writes that “knowledge” refers to the holy spirit (‫)רו ּחַ הַ קּ ֹדֶ ׁש‬. The connection between education and bringing out the grace in the student’s hidden talents can be seen in the Hebrew word for “education” (‫)חִ נּו ְּך‬, which can be divided into 2 parts, “grace” (‫ )חֵ ן‬and ‫וך‬, whose value is 26, the value of Havayah ('‫)הוי‬. 166) (‫ט‬-‫ ח‬,‫ וְ חָ ג ְַרתּ ָ אֹתָ ם אַ בְ נֵט אַ הֲ רֹן וּבָ נָיו )תצוה כט‬.‫וְ אֶ ת בּ ָ נָיו תּ ַ קְ ִריב וְ הִ לְ בּ ַ שְׁ תּ ָ ם כּ ֻ תּ ֳ נֹת‬ Third Reading: Priestly Garments and the Tree of Kn
