He instructed her to follow her husband to his palace in the distant country but he made one request: “Make sure, in your new home, and wherever you go, set aside one room which is dedicated for me, a room in which I can stay whenever I want to come to visit.” Hashem is in Shamayim above. For this reason He instructed us: “v’asu li mikdash v’shachanti besocham - You should make for Me a Mikdash and I will dwell among you.” The current Day Mishkan What about the times when we do not have a Mishkan or Beis Hamikdash in which Hashem can dwell among us? If the entire reason that a husband invests in his marriage and gives his wife what she needs is due to fear; if the only reason a wife spends time with her husband is because she is scared of his reaction, what kind of relationship is that? On the one hand he was excited and happy that his daughter was married to this wonderful prince, but at the same time he realised that he could not insist that they remain in his palace; they would have to move to the country of the groom. During this era, as we edge closer to the climax of history, the moment when we will achieve ultimate closeness with Hashem amid binyan Beis Hamikdash, the paradigm of serving Hashem exclusively out of fear and pressure will be scorned. May we indeed merit, during this special time, to plant the saplings within our hearts, to build a real Mishkan, a dwell- ing place for Hashem within us, and thus develop the relationship with Hashem we so crave. The people all around us are eschewing a relationship with Hashem just based on fear and are searching for a deeper and more intimate relationship with Him, a relationship of simcha, ahavah, and dveykus. To do so we must spend this time not just on empty festivities, but on considering the nissim that Hashem performed “ba’yamim ha’hem ba’zman hazeh” and on being mekabel the Torah once again. There are aspect of our neshama which are not present in the relationship, thus fear becomes the most important and motivating factor in the relationship - it is what keeps us in line.
