1 Tishrei (5507/1746) — The Baal Shem Tov's Soul Ascent and Meeting with Mashiach
On Rosh Hashanah 5507 (1746), the soul of the Baal Shem Tov ascended to the highest spiritual realms and reached the chamber of Mashiach. The Baal Shem Tov asked Mashiach the question: "When will the Master come?" — and received an answer that changed the course of Jewish history: "When your springs spread outward." This meant that the coming of Mashiach depends directly on the dissemination of Chassidic teachings — the inner soul of the Torah — among all Jews, even in the most remote corners of the world. This vision became the program of action for all subsequent generations of Chassidim: to carry the light of Chassidism to every Jew, transforming the darkness of exile into the light of Geulah. The Rebbe made this mission the central task of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, sending thousands of shluchim across the entire globe.
6 Tishrei — Yahrzeit of Rebbetzin Chana (5725/1964)
6 Tishrei is the day of remembrance for Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson, the Rebbe's mother. Rebbetzin Chana is a symbol of unbreakable courage and devotion to Torah under the most difficult circumstances. When her husband, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, was exiled by the Soviet authorities to Kazakhstan for his activities in preserving Judaism, Rebbetzin Chana followed him into exile. In conditions where there was neither ink nor paper, she gathered berries and herbs, making ink from them so that her husband could continue writing his commentaries on the Torah. This act of heroism — creating ink from berries in exile — became a symbol that the Torah cannot be destroyed by any persecution. Rebbetzin Chana raised a son who became the leader of the entire Jewish people, and her self-sacrifice became the foundation of the spiritual legacy that continues to change the world.
