ט"ו סיוון: הולדת הרש"ג (תרנ"ח/1897)

הולדת עוזרם הנאמן של שני רביים

Birth of Rabbi Shmaryahu Gurary

On 15 Sivan 5658 (1897), Rabbi Shmaryahu Gurary was born, known by the acronym Rashag. He was destined to play an outstanding role in the history of Chabad, becoming the son-in-law of the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe and a faithful associate of both the sixth and seventh Rebbes.

Head of the Tomchei Temimim Yeshivas

The Rashag headed the network of Tomchei Temimim yeshivas — Chabad's central educational system, founded by the Rebbe Rashab in 1897. Under his leadership, the yeshivas continued to produce generations of scholars and emissaries despite all hardships — first in the Soviet Union, then in Poland, and finally in America. The Rashag dedicated his life to ensuring that young Chassidim received a deep and comprehensive education.

Faithful Assistant to Two Rebbes

For decades, the Rashag served as the right hand of the sixth Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak, assisting him in leading the movement under the most difficult conditions — from Soviet persecution to emigration to America. After the passing of the sixth Rebbe in 1950, the Rashag supported the seventh Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, with the same devotion in his grand mission of spreading Jewish education and Chassidic teachings throughout the world.
