כת ה"סלף-מייד": למה אמונה בכוחות עצמך היא מלכודת לטיפשים

Modern culture glorifies the "self-made man" — a person who "made themselves." However, the sources call this belief not merely a delusion but a spiritual trap with catastrophic consequences.

Intellect as a Trap

Scripture says: "He catches the wise in their own craftiness." This means the smarter a person is, the more sophisticated the trap their own mind sets. A person begins to believe that their success is the result of their talent, education, and strategy. The sources tell a parable of a scribe who was proud of his calligraphic handwriting and believed his hand fed the family. When he lost his hand in an accident, he understood: the hand was merely a tool, and the true Provider was the One Who gave him that hand.

Efforts as Disguise

The concept of "hishtadlut" (effort) teaches: work is a vessel, not a cause. Just as a vessel is necessary for water but is not its source, efforts are necessary but do not determine the outcome. The practical conclusion: work conscientiously but without strain and stress. If you work with anxiety — you believe in your efforts. If you work with peace in your heart — you believe in the Creator. Stress at work is an unmistakable indicator of insufficient trust.
