תיקון הנשמה: איך לתקן טעויות בחינוך לפני שמאוחר מדי?

A Master Studies Every Detail

In one of his letters, the Rebbe offers a remarkable comparison: raising a child is like repairing antique furniture. A true master restorer never begins work without first studying every detail, every crack, every layer of paint. He understands the history of the piece, its unique structure, and only then carefully, with the greatest delicacy, begins the restoration. In the same way, a parent must approach their child's soul — with attention, patience, and deep respect for their unique nature. Crude intervention can cause more harm than inaction. But a conscious, loving approach can restore even what seemed hopelessly damaged.

It's Never Too Late to "Add Light"

Many parents, upon realizing their mistakes, fall into despair: "It's too late to change anything." The Rebbe categorically rejected this approach. He taught: it is never too late to "add light." Even if you were not religious, even if you did not give your child a Jewish upbringing in their early years — your own spiritual growth today instantly reflects upon your children. A family is a single spiritual organism. When one of its members rises to a higher level, it elevates everyone else. Your teshuvah (return to G-d) is not only your personal matter. It is a powerful act of healing for the entire family, including children who seemingly grew up long ago and went their own way.

Uncompromising Loyalty to Values

The Rebbe insisted: teach children not the logic of observing commandments, but uncompromising loyalty to Jewish values from the earliest age. A child who sees that parents "bargain" with the Torah — observing one thing while ignoring another — learns that faith is a matter of personal convenience. On the contrary, a child growing up in an atmosphere of complete devotion to G-d and His Torah perceives this as a natural way of life. Do not be afraid of being "too religious" for your children. The Rebbe said: an excess of light never harms. It is precisely the wholeness and consistency that you demonstrate in your spiritual life that becomes the most powerful educational tool — stronger than any words or lectures.
