רפואה או גורלנות: מתי ביקור אצל רופא הופך לחטא?

האיזון בין ביטחון בה' לבין פנייה לעזרה רפואית

רפואה או גורלנות: מתי ביקור אצל רופא הופך לחטא?

One of the sharpest questions in spiritual life is the balance between trusting God and seeking medical help. Is going to a doctor a sign of disbelief?

The Lesson of King Asa

The sources cite the story of Asa, king of Judah, who was punished because when his feet became diseased, "he sought not the Lord, but physicians." His mistake was not in seeking medical help itself, but in partnering God with people, believing that doctors could heal him on their own, without divine will.

The Doctor as an Instrument, Not a Savior

According to the Torah, a person is given both permission and obligation to heal and be healed. However, it is important to understand that a doctor is merely a "vessel" or conduit through which God sends healing. If a person becomes fixated on medical prognoses and falls into despair, they weaken their connection to the Source of life, which can negatively affect their fortune (mazal) and recovery process.

The Paradox of Medicine

Sometimes God can heal a person even through something that is naturally harmful, as in the story of the prophet Elisha who "fixed" the water by throwing salt into it. This proves that healing is not a chemical process, but the will of the Creator clothed in the form of natural means.
