The Rebbe's Revolution

The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, carried out a genuine revolution by making children the main heroes of Jewish life. He established "Tzivos Hashem" — the "Army of G-d" — so that children could actively participate in the battle during the final moments of exile. The Rebbe repeatedly emphasized that the children of our generation possess special souls that are naturally drawn to spirituality. While adults are burdened by habits, doubts, and compromises, children possess a purity of perception that allows them to see the world as the Creator intended it. This is precisely why, at the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, G-d demanded that children serve as the guarantors for the Torah's observance — not sages, not prophets, but specifically children. Their pure faith and sincere desire to do good are the guarantee of the Torah's existence in the world. The Rebbe understood this like no one else and therefore invested enormous energy in Jewish children's education.

Children Influence the Home

In the Chassidic model of education, children do not merely listen passively to their parents' stories at the Seder — they actively influence the home's atmosphere, reminding about mitzvot, asking questions, and prompting adults to action. The famous Lag BaOmer parades organized by the Rebbe featured thousands of children openly proclaiming their faith, becoming examples for adults accustomed to hiding their Jewishness. The Rebbe said: one child reciting "Shema Yisrael" with sincerity can awaken an entire neighborhood. Raising "smart children" who don't merely memorize but apply knowledge in practice is the shortest path to Redemption. When children become the Rebbe's "little emissaries," they carry the light of Torah to places adults sometimes cannot reach — schoolyards, parks, and playgrounds.
