אדר: קידוש אמריקה וכוח יום ההולדת

הגעת הרבי הריי"צ לאמריקה ומבצע יום הולדת

9 Adar — Arrival of Rebbe Rayatz in the USA (5700/1940)

On 9 Adar 5700 (1940), Rebbe Rayatz — the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe — set foot on American soil after a dramatic escape from war-torn Europe. America at that time was considered a "spiritual wasteland" — a place where Judaism inevitably dissolved into assimilation. But the Rebbe Rayatz immediately declared: "America iz nisht andersh" — "America is no different." With these words he challenged the prevailing opinion and proclaimed that full Jewish life is possible everywhere. The center of world Chassidism moved to the "lower hemisphere" — from Europe to America. This was not merely a relocation — it was the beginning of a new era in the history of the Jewish people, an era in which holiness would have to penetrate the most materialistic society on earth.

25 Adar — Birthday of the Rebbetzin and Mivtza Yom Huledes

25 Adar is the birthday of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson. According to Kabbalah, 25 Adar corresponds to the first day of Creation — the day when G-d created light. The Rebbe repeatedly emphasized the spiritual significance of every Jew's birthday and initiated the campaign "Mivtza Yom Huledes" — a movement for conscious celebration of Jewish birthdays. On one's birthday according to the Jewish calendar, a person should take on a new spiritual commitment, give tzedakah, study an additional Torah lesson, and hold a farbrengen — a Chassidic gathering with good wishes and inspiration. A birthday is not merely a celebration but a moment of spiritual renewal, when the soul receives new strength from Above to fulfill its unique mission in the world.
