Toxic Charity: How Your Help "Kills" Your Soul
Public help and the thirst for honor turn good into spiritual poison

Charity is considered one of the highest virtues. But the sources warn: improper charity can not only devalue a good deed but also harm your soul.
Hidden Versus Public
Public charity deprives a person of eternal reward. The one who gives for show receives their "payment" here and now — in the form of honor and public recognition. But in doing so, they lose the reward in the world to come. The highest form of charity is anonymous, where the giver doesn't know who they give to, and the receiver doesn't know who they receive from. It is precisely this form of help that brings a person closest to the Divine quality — for God bestows blessings without demanding public gratitude.
Insulting the Benefactor
You are merely a funnel through which Divine blessings flow from the Source to the one in need. Demanding recognition for charity is like a water pipe demanding gratitude for the water. This is not merely immodesty — it is spiritual impudence. You claim credit for an action that the Creator performed through you. True generosity is the joy of being a conduit of good, not the expectation of applause.
