The Alcohol Trap: What Your Bar Is Hiding

Why your favorite scotch may be forbidden forever

The Alcohol Trap: What Your Bar Is Hiding

Even after Pesach you may encounter the problem of "chametz she'avar alav ha-Pesach" — chametz that belonged to a Jew during the holiday. This makes the product forbidden forever.

Blacklisted Brands

The Association of Kashrus Organizations (AKO) warns that several well-known distilleries (Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Blanton's) may be owned by Jews who don't properly sell their chametz.

The Grape Problem

Many whiskeys are aged in sherry or port barrels, creating additional kashrut issues due to non-kosher wine.

Solution

For Pesach, buy only beverages with a "Kosher for Passover" certification.
